Who We Are
Living My Way is a trusted Member based not-for-profit organisation who have been supporting people with disabilities to live a self-directed life since 1992.
We remain fiercely loyal to the original reason for our existence – that Members can get on with life to live as independently as they choose.
The freedom of our unique Employ Your Own Model remains at the heart of what we do, and our core service pillar.
We pride ourselves on being an honest and professional organisation with Member representation on the Board.

“My hope is that 30 years from now, our story will be as ground breaking and purposeful as
it was when we began, in 1992.”

Our History
In 1984, twenty-four people, all wheelchair users with significant disabilities, had the opportunity to discover what real independence looked like. They were the ‘lucky few’ in an experiment called the Attendant Care Pilot Study. That study would change their lives forever and in turn, the lives of many others.
Almost a decade later, fourteen of the lucky few joined forces to form their own organisation, that eventually became Living My Way.
It was through the dedication, campaigning, and sheer persistence of our early founders that empowered our organisation to become who we are today. They would become the proving ground for a national allowance program, that would empower many more to live their lives their way.
You can read more about the origin story in ‘Becoming the lucky many’ – The Living My Way Story.
Our Vision
Living My Way will continuously improve and offer quality supports to our Members and help them to be empowered and continue to live self-directed lives. Led by a Board that consists of several Members with a disability from a range of professional backgrounds who understand the importance of being in control and extending themselves to the fullest extent possible. Our future looks bright in this evolving and changing disability landscape and we look forward to continuing to support Members for many more years to come.
