With profound sadness, the Board of Living My Way shares the news that the Chair, Milena Morrow, has passed away suddenly on Tuesday, 12 October 2021. Milena was 63.
Peter Strokhorb, the Vice-Chair, said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by Milena’s passing. It was a privilege to know Milena personally and to work alongside her over the last five years. Milena was a beautiful human being and has shown exceptional leadership since stepping up as the Chair for Living My Way seven years ago. The thoughts of the Board and the employees of Living My Way are with Milena’s husband and her family, and we extend our deepest condolences to them.” Mr Peter Strokhorb will assume the role of Interim Chair until the next Chair nomination.
Milena’s leadership and passion for Living My Way started three decades ago. She was one of the founding members of Living My Way and she was also one of the first Australians to receive a Self-Managed Home Care Package as part of a Commonwealth Government pilot program. Milena’s wisdom and life experience are inspirational. She was an accomplished public speaker, author, business owner, and financial management expert. Nothing stopped her from achieving her dreams and reaching her potential.
Milena was a strong advocate who believed in living a purposeful, fulfilling and inclusive life and was committed to raising awareness around disability to dispel misconceptions and break down invisible barriers. Her combined thirty years of experience in the disability sector brought so much value to Living My Way and the Members we serve. For these, Milena leaves behind a legacy of her work.
“Whether or not we have a perfectly functioning body, none of us is here by chance, and we should never be denied our fundamental human right to pursue our personal goals or to be in the driver’s seat of our destiny.” – An excerpt from Milena’s book, Sipping Champagne through a Straw.
Milena will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of over 30 years, Robert Morrow, her immediate family and close friends. A funeral ceremony for Milena will be held privately on 19 October 2021.
