Celebrating International Day of People with Disability 2024

  • November 20, 2024
International day of people with disability

Each year on 3 December, International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) brings the world together to reflect, celebrate, and advocate for a more inclusive world.

This year’s theme from the United Nations, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,” is a reminder of the contributions of people with disability make every day.

We continue to share stories of our Members, whose leadership shapes not only their own lives but also our communities. It’s about celebrating our journey and the role we all play in building an environment where everyone is respected and supported to live a life of their own choice.

The IDPwD program aligns with Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-31 and aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

This year’s IDPwD Ambassadors exemplify the theme of amplifying leadership. These advocates and changemakers come from diverse backgrounds, each making a significant impact in their own way.  From community leaders to athletes, educators, and artists, their stories remind us of the power of resilience, innovation, and advocacy in driving meaningful change. IDPwD Ambassadors are our storytellers, who continue to help drive meaningful change across Australia.  Learn more about the Ambassadors.

Partnering with Western Sydney Wanderers for the All Abilities Recognition Round

This year, we’re excited to celebrate IDPwD by partnering with the Western Sydney Wanderers for their All Abilities Recognition Round on 14 December at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta.

This grassroots initiative celebrates inclusion in sport and beyond, and we’re proud to join the celebration.

During half time, our Members, team and local community will join together with the Western Sydney Wanderers Powerchair Team for a half time Wanderlap.  A  chance to enjoy the stadium atmosphere and celebrate together.

We’re offering complimentary tickets for our Members, their families and our community.  Reach out to our team for more information via email – swita.karam@lmwl.org.au.

This event isn’t just about sport – it’s about creating a space where people with disability can be celebrated, supported, and included.

“We all pitch in to get things done. I would say, hand on heart, that the people we employ are truly Memberfocused and understand how their role can help Members meet their aspirations.”
