Your health and well-being are paramount, and as we approach the upcoming flu season, we want to emphasise the importance of influenza vaccination.
Why is an influenza vaccination a good idea?
Vaccination serves as an important measure to safeguard against the potential risks posed by the flu virus. Influenza can have serious consequences, especially for those with underlying health conditions, so getting vaccinated against influenza is a proactive step you can take to protect yourself and reduce the likelihood of severe illness or complications.
The influenza vaccine is designed to provide immunity against the most prevalent strains of the virus each season and comes as a single vaccine.
Who is eligible for a FREE flu shot?
Some people are also eligible for a FREE flu shot because they are at higher risk of severe illness from the influenza.
This includes:
- Children from 6 months to under 5 years of age
- People with serious health conditions (including severe asthma, diabetes, cancer, immune disorders, obesity, kidney, heart, lung or liver disease).
- Pregnant women
- Aboriginal people from 6 months of age
- People who are 65 years of age and over.
We encourage Members and community to take advantage of the influenza vaccination. It’s a proactive measure that not only protects you but also contributes to the well-being of our entire community.
When is a good time to get the influenza vaccination?
Before the start of the influenza season – usually from late April to May 2023. The highest level of protection occurs in the first 3 to 4 months following vaccination.
Where can I obtain an influenza vaccination?
