Scott: I have been living independently for 3 years. My Support Workers help me out with shopping, cleaning up the house, doing the washing. I feel happy… yes. I do like going to the gym a lot. All the exercise that I do, I actually like doing it.
Michael: Scott’s been coming to Summit since March 2022. He’s been really consistent with his training program. He would come once a week, and it really is one of the highlights for him and it’s also really nice to have him here. There’s the physical improvements which we’ve seen in terms of weight loss, but also I think the psychologically and the social aspect of being part of something, and he feels comfortable training in this environment.
Emma: Scott’s really good at listening and taking on feedback so he really puts all of his effort into making sure he’s doing his exercises really well, and he’s really dedicated. 10 seconds, good job!
Scott: I’m in a better place. I do everything on my own now. I’m very happy with myself, and with all the people that help me out. I love doing recycling for the environment because the environment is no good because people throw rubbish everywhere. The money that I get from the machine, I like to donate it. I have been living independently, exploring new places that I’ve never been to. I like going to shops, the coffee shop every morning to get my coffee.
Lina: When he first started coming in, he was very shy, but now it’s all him. He knows what he’s saying, he knows what he’s asking, and it’s great.
Scott: Going for walks in the afternoon, I enjoyed helping on the barbecue at the homeless shelter. I do have some goals, yes. One of them is saving up for my holiday. And another goal is maybe one day I might do some volunteer or work at Woolworths. I’m very happy with myself, and with all the people that help me out. I’m not so weak anymore I’m strong like Superman.
A day in the life of Scott
In 2022 Scott moved house and has been living independently for the last 3 years. With the help of his Support Workers, and members of the community, he’s built a new life that he loves.
